Museum collection: Letters
The War Childhood Museum aims to gather and digitize letters of children or youth written during the war period. The communication of children during the war reveals many details about their lived experience: their everyday lives, living conditions, their feelings, hopes and fears. These letters also provide a valuable insight into the processes of separation of children from their families and friends and its consequences on children.
While working on the book “War Childhood”, we realized that many people still keep their letters from the wartime. The letters traveled everywhere: from one part of the city to another, between the different cities in Bosnia, and between Bosnia and many different countries in the world. At a time when the city was completely cut off from the rest of the world, letters were the only channels of communication for many.
First galleries of letters will soon be presented here.
