In July, the War Childhood Museum welcomed international students and high-level guests, commemorated key dates with stories from our collection, and continued our work on peace-focused initiatives.

Educational Programs and Visits
As part of our educational programs, the War Childhood Museum welcomed over 400 international students from the United States, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Canada, Israel, and Japan.
We were also honored to host Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, during her visit to the Museum’s exhibition. Following the tour, Ms. DiCarlo held a meeting at the Museum with representatives of civil society organizations, including the War Childhood Museum, the Post-Conflict Research Center, and BIRN.
Marking Special Days
July 11 – International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica
This year marked the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. To commemorate the occasion, the War Childhood Museum released a short documentary featuring the testimonies of five individuals who were children at the time of the genocide. The video is based on the Children and Genocide collection, developed in collaboration with the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
You can watch the full documentary here and selected excerpts from the individual testimonies are available on our Instagram profile. We also highlighted several stories from our collection, which are available here.
July 30 – International Day of Friendship
On July 30, we shared a selection of stories that highlight the importance of friendship in the lives of children affected by war. You can read them here.
Special Projects
Although school holidays have paused activities in our PEACESTORY project, implemented with the support of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), our work continues. On July 15, 2025, the first meeting of the PEACESTORY project board was held in Sarajevo. You can read more about it here.
Before the break, participants in Creativity for Peace, a component of PEACESTORY, organized peacebuilding workshops for their peers across the country. Discover their experiences here.
We Grew Up in War, a video game based on our collection, is currently in development in collaboration with Charles Games studio in Prague. While we await its release in 2026, you can explore some previews here.
We are also part of a peace-focused project led by Bradford City of Culture 2025. In this initiative, young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the UK, and Northern Ireland use their mobile phones to share personal stories of peace and conflict. Take a look at one of our workshops here.
