The War Childhood Museum has awarded the international scholarship “Lejla Hairlahovic-Husic,” aimed at doctoral students in the field of humanities conducting research in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of February. In the open call announced a month before, a total of 58 doctoral students from 28 faculties operating within 12 universities from six countries applied.

The award committee decided to grant two candidates: Anes Osmic, a senior assistant at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, who is conducting doctoral research on the topic “Literature and Emotional Literacy – Developing Emotional Literacy Skills through Reading and Analyzing a Corpus of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Literature in Primary Schools,” and Iris Ivanis, a project manager at the University of Ljubljana, who is conducting doctoral research on the topic “Ontological Security through the power of memory in Bosnia-Herzegovina: War Childhood Museum.”

On this occasion, Anes Osmic emphasized that engaging in scientific research, especially at the beginning of an academic career, is often a lonely and exhausting endeavor, regardless of how important the research topic may be personally.

Lejla Hairlahovic-Husic Scholarship is very significant to me as a multiple recognition of two years of dedicated work on emotional literacy in literature. I am glad that people outside the academic circle recognize my work’s importance and contribution, especially in our society’s context. The scholarship also greatly encourages me to continue working and take further steps in research.

Iris Ivanis also considers it a significant initiative that opens up new opportunities for scholarship recipients at both academic and personal levels.

I believe this scholarship is an important opportunity to deepen my research and meet new and interesting people involved with the museum. As a scholarship recipient, I will be able to work on raising awareness of the importance and relevance of social research. I am immensely proud and honored to be able to become the War Childhood Museum’s ambassador.

Iris Ivanis

This scholarship has been awarded in collaboration with the “Lejla Hairlahović-Hušić” Foundation since 2022, in honor of the WCM’s late researcher, Lejla Hairlahovic-Husic (1983–2020).
