Merima Razanica, War Childhood Museum educational activities coordinator, has received the prestigious “Peace Curator Prize for the Western Balkan Region” from the Balkan Museum Network.

In a world still grappling with the remnants of past conflicts and the emergence of new divisions, the mission of peace-building, reconciliation, and intercultural dialogue, remains a cornerstone of societal progress. Heritage professionals, through their dedicated efforts, play a crucial role in bridging divides, fostering understanding, and healing wounds that linger in the collective consciousness of communities. “These exceptional individuals not only preserve our cultural heritage but also facilitate conversations that transcend historical divisions, showcasing the transformative power of museums as platforms for dialogue and understanding”, states Balkan Museum Network.

It’s important that, as a society, we start recognizing and valuing those who diligently contribute to peace-building

Due to my deep intrinsic motivation for continuous work in spreading the ideas of pacifism, non-violence, dialogue, and tolerance, this award means a lot to me, primarily on a personal level as confirmation of the importance of advocating for the values I stand for and that the War Childhood Museum, through which I work, stands for as well.

It is very important that, as post-war societies, we finally begin to recognize and value individuals who continuously, quietly, and devotedly contribute to the world through peace activism by spreading ideas that make the world a much better place than it would be without their work. Therefore, I thank the Balkan Museum Network for initiating the award, and I look forward to each subsequent awarded person as a companion on the journey of creating positive peace.
