In October, the War Childhood Museum team welcomed two high school students who joined us for the event called Social Day. This day gives high school students the opportunity to spend one day in a workplace, get a sense of a professional environment, and learn about basic work processes.
As part of the program organized by the Association of Secondary School Students in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ASuBiH), the War Childhood Museum was one of the places where students had the opportunity to gain their first work experience.
Our guests, Ivor and Emir, began their day in the museum office, where they got acquainted with the work of our communications and programs teams. There, they took part in a short activity in which they proposed communication initiatives for one of our programs.

Afterwards, they visited the Museum and spent time with our museum guides, learning about how we work with visitors.
“I’m glad I got to see all aspects of this job and the many projects the Museum is working on. I really liked the positive, relaxed atmosphere at work — there wasn’t a single moment I didn’t enjoy, and I’d definitely love to do this again,” said Ivor.
Emir added that the day was interesting from start to finish and full of new experiences:
“I’m glad I had the chance to learn about different topics, of which the most important one was how children lived during the war. It’s great to see people coming to learn about what the children of Sarajevo went through, and what other children are experiencing or have experienced.”
Each workplace where high school students volunteer on that day contributes a daily allowance to the Social Day Fund. The funds are used to support students in launching initiatives and addressing issues they identify in their communities.
