Summary:Students learn about the experience of a refugee girl who lost her home and felt unwelcome in a new country. They brainstorm on ways to help a child in a similar or same position who might join their school one day feel more accepted and welcome. They also identify the types of adults who might provide further support to the child and their family.

Objectives
To help children to:
- consider what makes them feel happy and safe,
- consider what makes some children feel sad and unwelcome,
- think about how they could help other children who are new to the country / school,
- think about the trusted adults who help them and who could also help a family that doesn’t
- know who to turn to for help.
Materials needed: Personal story about the keys (available in Annex 1), enlarged image of Marwa’s set of keys to put onto a whiteboard or technology to show it to students (Available in Annex 2), prints of the worksheet ‘The Keys to a Happy and Safe Life for Children Who Move to a Different Country” (available in Annex 3)
