This year, the War Childhood Museum marks eight years of preserving and sharing the stories of those who experienced war during childhood. To commemorate this anniversary, we are hosting a special event and exhibition in collaboration with renowned Bosnian photographer Milomir Kovačević Strašni.

The exhibition, titled “Children of War, People of Peace,” offers a poignant visual narrative. During the war, Strašni captured the everyday lives of children growing up amid conflict. Decades later, he has revisited the subjects of those portraits—now adults—and created new images that reflect their current lives and diverse life paths. The photographs tell a powerful story of resilience, transformation, and the passage of time.

WCM 8. Birthday

Milomir Kovačević Strašni has been documenting the cultural and political life of Sarajevo since the late 1970s. As a photojournalist, he captured the daily realities of a city under siege, bearing witness to both suffering and strength. Since relocating to Paris in 1995, Strašni has continued his photographic work, receiving numerous honors, including the prestigious French Chevalier (Knight) title and the Sixth of April Award from the City of Sarajevo.

The exhibition will be on view from March 29 to April 3 at the Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo (Obala Maka Dizdara 3), open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free.

To celebrate our eighth birthday, entry to the War Childhood Museum will also be free on March 29 and 30. The Museum is open every day from 11:00 to 19:00.

Join us in reflecting on the past and honoring the strength of those who lived through war as children. We look forward to welcoming you! 🎈
