Summary: In this activity plan students will work with both their own diaries and diaries from the War Childhood Museum collection. The main objective is for students to better understand the personal dimension of living in war.

Main age group: 15-18

Time needed: 2 x 45-minute periods

Objectives:

  • Enhancing multi-perspectivity relating to children in war situations
  • Understanding how young people experience war
  • Developing a microscopic/personal view of wartime
  • Historical comparison between diaries
  • Encouraging young people to write (a diary)

Materials needed: Personal diary for each student (school supplied or brought by themselves), printed/electronic diary excerpts for students to read.
