After the Exhibition opened for the public this morning, the official opening event was held tonight, with speakers being WCM’s Executive Director, Amina Krvavac, Apostolic Nuncio to BiH Luigi Pezzuto, representing the Vatican Embassy in BiH, TRC Ušivak Manager, Azra Ibrahimović, and fourteen-year-old Sofia, a girl from Syria whose story is a part of the exhibition.
In her address, Amina Krvavac emphasized that the aim of the “Childhood En Route” is “to contribute to a better understanding of the experiences of children on the move”, saying how its opening is of particular importance as the xenophobic sentiment towards migrants and refugees is on the rise.
Apostolic Nuncio to BiH, mons. Pezzuto welcomed the opening of such an exhibition, underscoring the importance of “showing solidarity and care for the wellbeing of children on the move”, as well as of the existence of places such as the Social Corner in Ušivak, which opened precisely due to the support and work of the Apostolic Nunciature of BiH.
TRC Ušivak’s Manager, Azra Ibrahimović stated how children on the move are one of the most vulnerable groups within the society, and thanked the War Childhood Museum and all the organizations that “through their work and activities help make the everyday life for these children better.”
Fourteen-year-old Sofia, who has been separated from her mother for five years now, shared the story of a personal item that is of particular significance to her, but which she lent to the Museum for this exhibition.

We remind you that the WCM is opening its first exhibition in Ukraine tomorrow, while the opening of the Speaking Out exhibition in New Temple Gallery in Sarajevo is set for Friday June 25.
