An EU delegation, headed by Josep Borrell, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission visited the War Childhood Museum today!
After visiting the WCM, the High Representative signed our book of impressions, writing the following: “We need to remember, because only then can we prevent it from happening again. This museum serves as that reminder, giving us strength to work for children, so that they can live in peace.”
In visiting the WCM, the High Representative was joined by Johann Sattler, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, and Angelina Eichhorst, EEAS Managing Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans and Turkey. They were welcomed by War Childhood Museum’s Director Jasminko Halilović and its Executive Director Amina Krvavac, who led the delegation through the Museum’s permanent exhibition.
With the aim of paying tribute to the civil victims of war and inspiring dialogue on successful approaches to maintaining and building peace in BiH, following the tour of the exhibition, the event attendees were addressed by the High Representative, WCM’s Executive Director, as well as Bora Jevtić, peace activist, Dajana Cvjetković, participant of the Dialogue for the Future project, and Selma Korjenić, Head of TRIAL International.
A range of important messages could be heard during these speeches, while the presence of several notable persons helped make the occasion even more special: Ingrid Macdonald, UN Resident Coordinator in BiH, Kathleen Kavalec, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Bojana Urumova, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo, Nicola Minasi, Ambassador of Italy to BiH, Johanna Strömquist, Ambassador of Sweden to BiH, and Martin Kačo, Ambassador of Slovakia to BiH.
We are delighted to have been chosen as the hosts of this event, and to have had the opportunity to “hear several approaches to reconciliation and dealing with the past, which are, in spite of their differences, based on the same values and focused on achieving the same goals,” as stated by Amina Krvavac.
