Educational Visits and Programs

This December, we welcomed 14 school groups from Sarajevo, Visoko, and Donji Vakuf, with nearly 400 participants. These visits provided students with a chance to explore our exhibition and learn about the impact of war on children, but also participate in our educational activities.

Exhibition Opening in South Korea

On December 3, the War Childhood Museum’s traveling exhibition, “Childhood Under Siege,” was officially opened at the Jeju April 3 Peace Memorial Hall.

Following its highly successful run at the Seoul Museum of History earlier this year, where it welcomed over 100,000 visitors, the exhibition has now arrived on Jeju Island. Organized in collaboration with the Jeju April 3 Peace Foundation and the Seoul Museum of History, the exhibition explores the experiences of children in Sarajevo during the 1992–1995 siege.

The exhibition includes 37 exhibits and stories, along with 10 video testimonies from individuals who grew up during the siege. A dedicated section highlights the experiences of children from other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing a broader perspective on the impact of conflict on young lives.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until May 6, 2025.

International Collaboration in Tunisia

Our Archive Coordinator, Amina Šurković, participated in a study exchange visit in Tunisia, organized by AVSI (People for Development), Rondine Citadella della Pace, and others. This exchange offered a platform to share experiences and strengthen peacebuilding connections. Read more here.

Media Get-Together

We hosted a special get-together with local journalists, offering a detailed look into our work, programs, and future plans. Guests explored our permanent exhibition and had the chance to ask questions about the Museum’s activities.

Marking International Migrants Day

On December 18, the War Childhood Museum observed International Migrants Day by sharing stories from our collection that reflect the experiences of children displaced by conflict. These personal narratives demonstrate the challenges faced by displaced children while also showing their resilience in the face of adversity. Check them out here.

Spotlight on Collection Contributors: Interview with Lina G. Tahan

In December, we also featured an interview with Lina G. Tahan, a collection contributor from Lebanon. Lina shared her reflections on the Museum’s significance and its impact on her. Read her story here.

Strategic Planning for the Future

Our Bosnia and Ukraine teams came together for a strategic planning session at the Igman mountain near Sarajevo. This collaborative retreat laid the groundwork for ambitious projects in 2025, and we’re excited to share more in the coming year.
